The Radio Television Digital News Association has recognized Kate Welshofer and WGRZ with a 2021 National Edward R. Murrow Award.
Welshofer won in the small market writing category. The winners were announced on Tuesday morning.

This is the second year in a row Welshofer has won the prestigious national award for writing.
The Murrow Awards recognize local and national news stories that uphold the RTDNA Code of Ethics, demonstrate technical expertise and exemplify the importance and impact of journalism as a service to the community. Murrow Award winning work demonstrates the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession.
Winners will be recognized at the Murrow Awards Gala on October 27th in New York City.
