Supporting those with Breast and Gynecologic cancer

One organization in Western New York supports those going through breast and gynecologic cancer by assisting with meals, home cleaning, and connections.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo is one of six cities that have a branch of Pink Ribbon Good (PRG).

Pink Ribbon Good is an organization who's mission is assisting those with Brest and Gynecological cancer. They provide services such as meal delivery, house cleaning assistance, rides to treatment and fellowship through different support groups and events.

Tara Ditommaso was diagnosed with stage four cancer 5-years ago. When she was diagnosed she was given a 6-month life expectancy. She has made it her mission ever since to inspire others and continue to fight.

She created a TikTok page dedicated to her fight.

Early on in her cancer journey, she was connected with PRG when she told her doctor about her struggles to cook for her family and keep the house clean.

"On days I don't feel good, I am the primary caregiver for my daughter who's on the autism spectrum and it's so hard to give up doing," Ditommaso said, "They will send meals to the house, already made. They are in a container that she can just warm up in the microwave. And they are good and they're healthy".

Her daughter often likes to help around the house while she is recovering from treatments. PRG sent her family a lightweight vacuum cleaner, so she or her kids could vacuum and clean the house easier.

Along with the physical support, they also provide those with cancer spaces and groups to get together and meet one another.

Ditommaso said it is really important for her to have time to speak with others who are going through similar struggles. She said, "My husband or my daughter or my friends just don't have that same experience or understanding,".

PRG also partners with community sponsors.

Tom Biamonte is the president of Shelby Stone Trucking. They had one of their trucks wrapped with teal camouflage for Gynecological cancer, and a bright pink ribbon with the PRG logo. He said, the fight against breast cancer is personal for his family.

Biamonte said, "My wife had breast cancer years ago, sometimes you need that support, support that wasn't there back 20 years ago,".
