WNY business idea to give back, reaches community

The Good Neighbors Account is a way to give back to the community and help those in need.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — You can find a lot of sweet things to eat at a shop in Western New York, but you'll also find they are offering a even sweeter deal.

Sweet Jenny's in Williamsville offers a variety of sweet treats from ice cream to chocolates. But they are also serving up an even sweeter message.

Howard Cadmus, owner of Sweet Jenny's said, "being as thoughtful and as kind as you can be."

A year ago, Sweet Jenny's started the Good Neighbors Account.

Howard said, "If people came in and were in need, we wanted to try to find a way that I guess a little more subtle. They could talk to us about the account and say oh how do I know myself this or maybe roundabout way we could say will do you do you want some ice cream."

It didn't take long for the community to notice their act of kindness.

Ellen Loos has been working at Sweeet Jenny's for 15 years. She said, "The amount of response we've gotten ... 'Oh, I want to put this $20 toward the Good Neighbors. I want to put that.' Absolutely amazing, just to see the good in people."

Cadmus added, "I knew based on where we live how philanthropic people are and how kind [they are], I knew that people would help."

And they did. The outpouring of support has helped Sweet Jenny's with a variety of ways to give back.

"We are able to give ice cream to other organizations, we are able to give away gift certificates based on the money we've collected for all different kinds of events," Cadmus said.

Loos said of the Good Neighbors Account: "Absolutely amazing just to see the good people everyone wants to bless other people in need so it's phenomenal."

Sweet Jenny's is located on East Spring Street in Williamsville. You can check their Facebook Page for more information and their hours.
