Shea's 710 unveils new season lineup

Shea's 710 Theater will kick off its 2024-2025 season in September with Disney's "Newsies," produced by the Kavinoky Theatre.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Shea's 710 Theatre will kick off its 2024-2025 season in September with Disney's "Newsies," produced by Kavinoky Theatre. It will mark the first time the two theaters have teamed up.

"This will be the Kavinoky's first time at 710 and we couldn't think of a better show than Newsies to make our debut," said Katie Mallinson, executive artistic director of D’Youville's on-campus theatre. "It's a musical that captures the heart and spirit of a young generation determined to seize the day."

Shea's President Brian Higgins announced the 710 season would continue with "Forbidden Broadway," a satirical roast of more than 30 familiar Broadway hits.

"The New York Times calls this next show consistently riotous, it sounds like the institution I came to Shea's from," the former congressman joked.

Then more local theaters will take the stage, with Road Less Traveled Productions presenting "Dial M for Murder" in March.

"We are very excited to continue our partnership with Shea's 710. Road Less Traveled was actually the first local company to come back to this space after Studio Arena was no longer with us," RLTP artistic and executive director Scott Behrend said.

Finally, the season will conclude with a little bit of courtroom drama and a whole lot of pink, with a reprise of MusicalFare's popular staging of "Legally Blonde the Musical."

"We're going to bring it from our main stage in Amherst to the Shea's 710 stage featuring much of the original cast," executive artistic director Randy Kramer said. "What makes this even more special is that our final week of our sold out production of Legally Blonde in Amherst in 2023 was cancelled because of a Covid outbreak in the cast. Nearly a thousand people who had already bought tickets to the show were unable to see it. Now they can come to the Shea's 710 stage in May 2025 and get a second chance to enjoy this production."
