BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Sabres are getting ready to open their season in Prague.
"There's a certain underlying fandom that has still lingered all these years. To see it rekindle a little bit it is so exciting." Nate Mroz is the Owner of the BFLO Store. The store offers all kinds of fan gear, from the Sabres to the Bills. But recently, Mroz said they've seen more people shopping for some Sabres gear because hockey season is here! Mroz, said, "It's cool to see people already getting ready for the season."
The excitement is in the air as the team is preparing to play the Devils on Friday and Saturday. Some fans, like Joseph Valentino, couldn't wait to see the action. So, he and his son traveled to Prague.
Valentino said, "We figured it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be able to see our favorite hockey team." His father added that he's been a fan, "since the inception of the team. I was there when they drafted Gilbert Perreault. It's been a while for me."
That sentiment rings true for other Western New Yorkers, too. Katherine Lonsbery left from WNY to head to Prague to see her favorite team play.
Lonsbery explained, "When the Sabres said they were opening their season here I said I have to go now."
She is excited to share the experience with her friends. She said some of them haven't seen a NHL game before. She said, "I'm so excited for the three of them to experience their first NHL game. I am so excited."
Dan Starzynski is in Prague, too. He said, "Our initial trip was to Wiesbaden, Germany to visit my son who is in the U.S Army and our daughter in law. We came up with a plan to celebrate Oktoberfest in Germany…but when we heard the news of The Buffalo Sabres coming only hours away… We knew we had to make this experience happen. So far, Prague had been a very welcoming and exciting place to visit. Not only did we get to see our son and daughter in law, but we get to represent and celebrate our great Buffalo Sabres!"
