Reddy Bikeshare expands to Tonawanda

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The trails along the Niagara River in Tonawanda are already a popular destination for bikers. It just got even easier to take a ride on one of them.

Reddy Bikeshare has installed two new stations in the City of Tonawanda, one in Niawanda Park across from Niagara and Franklin Street, and one at the Intermodal Hub at 36 Young Street.

"These are really two key areas where we see already a lot of usage, because they're some of the most popular trails the Tonawanda Rail Trail, and the Empire State Trail," Reddy Bikeshare's Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Simon Husted, told 2 On Your Side.

This expansion marks Reddy Bikeshare's first outside of the City of Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

"Every year, we get a record number of trips and we see a record number of trips still happening along this greenway," Husted said. "So we're so happy to help with the Niagara River Greenway Commission and expand that reach."

Mayor John White of the City of Tonawanda says on average, half a million people a year walk or ride on the paths along the Niagara River.

"We're a biking city. We're a biking community," he said. "With all the trails and rails and trails we got, down through Young Street that goes all the way through the Town of Tonawanda, and then we got the Greenway which runs here, which goes all the way through the State of New York, it's awesome."

To use a Reddy bike, just scan the QR code on the back of the bike to pay and start riding.
