Western New Yorkers rappel off the Seneca One roof, raise money for a good cause

Dozens of brave Western New Yorkers rappelled down the side of Buffalo's tallest building to raise money for The Arc Erie County.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Seneca One is Buffalo's tallest building at 38 stories high. Dozens of brave Western New Yorkers got to rappel down the side of it on Friday, to support local children and adults with developmental disabilities.

The fundraiser drew a total of 52 people, who each took their turn going "Over the Edge" of the tower to raise money for The Arc Erie County.

It was the second year that The Arc worked with Over the Edge to stage the event at Seneca One.

"Here we are at year two, we sold out right away," CEO Douglas DiGesare said. "It's a lot of fun. Our first two people that went over today were 80 years old, so that was pretty amazing."

Fresh off their latest National Lacrosse League championship, Buffalo Bandits Forward Chase Fraser represented the team by participating in the event, and descended down the building with ease.

"Got the email saying, 'Do you want to come support a good cause and rappel down a big building?' Aboslutely," he said. "Anything to get the adrenaline pumping or give back to the community, I'm all about it."

Pam Vetrano, a Sales Executive at Highmark WNY, works inside Seneca One and got to wave to her co-workers on her way down from the roof.

"It was scarier than I thought at the top, but then it was so exciting," she said. "The weather's perfect, the views are perfect. You just got to ride down, take in the views, take your time."

The Arc Erie County plans to use the close to $140,000 raised from the event to help build an inclusive and sensory farm in Alden.
