NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — There will be an event happening in North Tonawanda on Strad Avenue at Integrity Martial Arts to benefit the Matt Urban Human Services Center. It's called On the Mat for Matt Urban.
The executive director of the Matt Urban Human Services Center, Ryan Undercoffer, will try to spar from 10 in the morning to 1 in the afternoon.
"I was 9 when I started doing karate. I wrestled in high school and started doing Brazilian Jujitsu my senior year. It's definitely a big part of my life," Undercoffer said.
Jeff Denz, is the owner of Integrity Martial Arts. He's excited to host the event.
"I love it, this is what I want to do every day, forever, for the rest of my life," Denz said. "There's nothing more fun than coming on the mats and making money for people and helping people."
"All proceeds from this event will support the Matt Urban Human Services Center, a nonprofit that provides housing, case management, and basic needs services throughout Western New York. Funds raised through the Home for the Holidays campaign help the Matt Urban Center continue its mission of empowering the homeless and those in need."
It's part of the center's Home for the Holidays campaign. It raises money for their "essential human services programs."
Undercoffer said, "When your day job is kind of in the nonprofit and human services world, sometimes you take that a little bit for granted, so it is nice to really be able to put myself on the line, like for real, to raise money for that cause."
You can register before the event by going to the Matt Urban Center website. You can also sign up at the door Saturday. Spectators are welcome too!
