Production for Erie County Fair's Best in Show Hard Cider is now underway

Tim Hull of Tonawanda's Grandstand Peach Cider will be sold at the beer gardens at the fair, as well as Tops and Consumer's.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Just when you thought we were safely in the middle of summer, it's time to talk about the Erie County Fair and apple cider.

Although this year's Best in Show Cider at the Erie County Fair will have the decidedly summery taste of peaches.

"It's just been a hobby I've had over the last ten years or so, so I saw they were canning it and making it for the fair this year so I decided to enter. I had a creative recipe I thought might have a chance of winning, so I thought why not," Tim Hull of Tonawanda told 2 On Your Side.

His Grandstand Peach Cider has been named "Best in Show" in the fair's hard cider contest and it's being canned up at Resurgence Brewery. The cider will be available at the beer gardens at the fair, as well as in four-packs at Tops and Consumers.

"It's basically a peach-flavored cider," Hull said. "I basically made it for some friends for a Masters-themed party a few years back and tried to give it another go this time around."

The contest is a collaboration between Resurgence Brewery, Blackbird Cider, Try It Distributing, and the Erie County Agricultural Society.

"We got a really delicious cider this year. I'm excited for people to taste it," Blackbird Cider's Phil Gigliotti said. "I think it's going to go well with the typical fair foods and the fair experience. It's a nice round 6% ABV. so it's crisp, enjoyable, and Tim did a great job."

This isn't the first time Hull's cider has won the contest.

"He's actually a repeat champion, so I was excited to see him again," Gigliotti said. "He's a good cider maker. He knows what he's doing and I think he represents the fair, Erie County, and Blackbird well."

There will be a tasting event for the Grandstand Peach Cider at Resurgence Brewery on Thursday, June 11th from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
