Botanical Gardens rolls out rebrand ahead of expansion

Next time you visit the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, things will be even more colorful than usual.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Next time you visit the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, things will be even more colorful than usual.

"Here at the Botanical Gardens we are living the brand every day," President and Ceo Mark Mortensen said on Tuesday morning, wearing a brightly colored shirt, patterend with the organization's new logo. "My shirt is actually a tribute to our brand. This is the wallpaper representing all the different brand elements of our new brand, which is really much more colorful, vibrant, and exciting."

The gift shop is stocked with new merchandise, new signage throughout the gardens is coming soon, and a large expansion is also in the works.

"We're coming out with a design that really embraces the historic elements of the property, but also really adds improved accessibility for our community, because right now it's a long hike to our front entrance," he said. "This new building addition will really help to connect to the parking lot and make it much easier for visitors to get inside the building."

Work is scheduled to start next spring and be done in 2027. The gardens will stay open throughout construction.

"We are looking to change all of our living museum spaces to really showcase and highlight the compelling and unique living collection that we have.," Mortenson said. "So you'll see changes happening on the interior while we're in the process of construction so there's going to be in addition to this brand that I'm wearing today, there's going to be constant evolution happening up until that grand opening of 2027"

In the meantime, there's a full schedule of floral exhibits and shows to enjoy at the gardens, including Floral Spectra, which opens June 1st and celebrates the color of plants.
