WNY families celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week

From social media posts, to witty videos, to parades, students and parents say thank you to hardworking educators.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and even though students haven't been in school for weeks and they're not going back for the rest of year, it seems teachers are working harder than ever.

To say thank you, families have been posting photos to social media, giving their favorite educators special shout outs and thank you messages.

In Buffalo, there was a parade and celebration Wednesday for Middle Early College High School Principal Susan Doyle, who officially retired after 41 years in education.

Parents Angie and Jeremy Hurlburt and their son Wyatt in the Frontier School District made a video, a love letter of sorts,  for all teachers on behalf of all parents who have now become teachers themselves. This was their message:

"Dear Teachers, you are amazing. You are magicians, no you're super human. We are amazed by what you do. Our current adult-to-kid ratio of one-to-one is more than we can handle. We are grateful for what you teach our children. We appreciate you more than words can express. And we will never take what you do for granted. Ever. Our kids miss you and we miss you. We really, really miss you. Thank you for being such an important part of our lives. Thank you for being a teacher. Thank you for being you. Signed, all the parents."

And WGRZ's Daybreak co-anchor Melissa Holmes and her 6-year-old son Elliott were part of a class parade to surprise his kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Lisa Pupo, at Smallwood Drive Elementary in the Amherst Central School District. Elliott cried when he learned he and his friends wouldn't be returning to school and to their beloved teacher, showing just how much teachers touch the lives of their students.
