High school students celebrate re-opening of their caffeination station

Williamsville North's student-run coffee shop, "The Hot Spot," has a new location this year.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — One of the coolest things about going to school at Williamsville North is the Hot Spot, the student-run coffee shop that's open during the day. The shop got a new home this year, and they're now open for business.

"When it's hot it hits the spot," junior, Stash Foster said. "it's our slogan."

The Hot Spot has been a Spartan tradition for more than two decades now. Business students in the school's entrepreneurship class operate the store.

"It's just a fun experience that you can really get involved with learning how to operate a business," Foster said.

Grabbing a coffee or a bagel between classes is a big part of student life at North.

"I usually get a Spartan roast," senior, Marlowe Bloomberg said. "It's pretty much the plain one, I'm a pretty plain person, but it's my favorite."

So, it was a big deal when they cut the ribbon on their new location this week.

"It was the big day. We wanted to make sure everything was perfect," senior, Noah Stierheim said.

"There was so much excitement," senior, Allison Dolan said. "Everyone was talking about it and a lot of planning really went into everything that was happening today."

Due to new district-wide security procedures, the school moved the main office into the former Hot Spot, which faces the bus circle. The Hot Spot took over the former office.

"It's so great of the district to give us the opportunity to make this whole place designed specifically to the Hot Spot," Dolan said.

"It accommodates a lot more products and I feel like the location is really central," Bloomberg added.

"It's awesome that we can still carry on the traditions of the hot spot, but also have a new hot spot at the same time," Stierheim said.

"It's definitely like an original thing for our school,"  Foster said. "It's definitely just a sense of community that you get throughout the day."

At the end of the year, the students in the entrepreneurship class take all of their profits from the Hot Spot, and donate them back to their school, as well as outside charities.
