Polka band keeps the Dyngus Day spirit alive with virtual performance

Hocus Polkas would have been playing their 10th Dyngus Day this year.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — This would have been the tenth year in a row playing Dyngus Day for the band Hocus Polkas. Instead, they're doing things a little differently this year.

Usually, Hocus Polkas are in the middle of the party, in the parade, then on stage at the Adam Mickiewicz Library on the East Side of Buffalo, dodging pussy willows and enjoying kielbasa and perogi in between tunes.

Even though they can't do it in person this year, they recorded a virtual version of the song "Who Stole the Kishka." You can find it on their Facebook page

Happy Dyngus Day! The band put this little video together for you. It's the next best thing to being with you! Thanks to all of our partners, especially Adam Mickiewicz Library & Dramatic Circle, Inc. and Buffalo Groundhog Day. And thanks to all of our friends and fans. Hope to see you next year. Stay safe! Oh... word on the street is that we will be featured on Channel 2's Daybreak (5-7 AM) and Most Buffalo (4 PM) on Dyngus Day. WGRZ Hocus Polkas

"Dyngus Day is our day, it's our big celebration," Lead Singer Mike Morrissey told 2 On Your Side. "That's why we wanted to do something special, and try to reach out to our friends and our fans and try to give them something to celebrate."

"Dyngus Day is just all about having a good time and it's not a serious holiday." said trumpet player Andrew Leon. "It's a day to just laugh at yourself, so we just had a little bit of fun with the video. Maybe it will just bring a little smile to everybody's face and just remember the fun that you have during Dyngus Day."
