LANCASTER, N.Y. — The pandemic is forcing everyone to slow down, and as a result, is allowing many to focus on their creative side.
A local businessman put pen to paper, and now his children's poem is going viral.
Patrick Hall of Lancaster said he always enjoyed writing poetry, and the coronavirus pandemic inspired him to write a Dr. Suess-style poem that can help children understand what's happening.
After posting the poem on social media, he said it was liked and shared more than 100,000 times.
Then he turned that poem into a children's book called "The Unlikely Teacher," with a moral that everyone can take to heart.
"Despite all of our PAUSE orders, pause isn't always a bad thing. Take a look around at your family and what's really important in this world. And we're doing just fine without professional sports, without a ton of entertainment," Hall said. "There's more to life than what we're not able to do at this time."
Hall plans to donate all the proceeds from the sale of the book to the United Way's COVID-19 Relief Fund.
The book is available for purchase online June 1. Hall says there have been 1,000 pre-orders already.
