GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. — It needed more than a fresh coat of paint.
The site of the former Fantasy Island amusement park in Grand Island fell into disrepair under previous ownership, and new owners had some issues restoring the beloved property to what it was during it's peak run a generation (or two) ago.
In 2024, new owners for the property, now named Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World, have promised several rides will be added for the summer season. Among them: the Giant Wheel, the Tilt-a-Whirl, the Sea Dragon, and the antique autos. A roller coaster named Serpent will be open soon, possibly this weekend. It resembles the Wild Mouse coaster from back in the day.
The biggest thrill is still the Silver Comet. The wooden coaster was built to resemble the look and feel of "The Comet", a popular roller coaster from Crystal Beach, a former amusement park in Ontario.
The site also features a water park with slides of different excitement levels, from toddler to speed demon. And the beloved Cowboy stunt spectacular is back in Western Town.
For adult Western New Yorkers, visiting this site will take them back to their youth.
