Festival Fest gets into the heavy stuff

Warning: this video includes a cat and a blanket with a combined weight of 35 pounds

Festival Fest is more than just festivals. The best thing to happen to Monday since the three-day weekend has already featured arts and crafts and office furniture makeovers. Now, it's gotten into product testing--sort of.

Weighted blankets a.k.a. "Gravity blankets" or "Comfort blankets" seem to be all the rage. They are designed to give the user a sense of calm aiding with sleep and anxiety relief.

I thought it sounded neat, so I decided to buy one and I have been talking about it ever since.

Imagine, if you will, spending money on a blanket that weighs 15 pounds...

We’ll get back to that because I also want to tell you about The Twilight Zone!

The Twilight Zone event features four new original plays and will be presented at the American Repertory Theater on January 9th. This is a one-night-only event and tickets are pay what you can.

Meanwhile the Sun Moon Psychic Expo is happening at Michael’s in Hamburg January 12th and 13th. It benefits Sadie's Safe Harbor dog rescue.

Speaking of good causes, I have to tell you about the Little Smiles bowling fundraiser. 100% of the proceeds from this event go to the cause that helps supports kids going through tough times.

Albright-Knox is having a $5 Family Day coming up on January 13th.

If you like art, you may be interested in a year-long effort by A.J. Fries, who we’ve featured on Festival Fest before. Fries painted a painting everyday in 2018. He is displaying all 365 works of art at a special pop-up gallery. More details here.

Are you one of those people who opts to do a booze-free January so you can get a fresh start on the New Year? Great, then you can drive your friends to the Buffalo on Tap Craft Beer Festival January 12th at the Convention Center.

Check out the video for more thoughts on the weighted blanket craze.

That's Festival Fest for this week. If you have events you'd like mentioned, PLEASE drop a line to festivalfest@wgrz.com.
