Buffalo school brings holiday spirit to M&T's Gold Dome

The school's honor choir will perform a free lunchtime concert on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — If you're looking to get into the festive holiday spirit, look no further than the M&T Bank Fountain Plaza branch at lunchtime this week.

"Holiday Music Under the Dome" is happening every day at M&T's iconic "Gold Dome" location.

Happening on Wednesday, the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts Honor Choir will present their holiday program.

Earlier this week, 2 On Your Side stopped by the school during one of their rehearsals. Students in the group say outside performances like this are of one of the best parts about being in their choir.

"December is a very eventful month for us, seeing as though it's Christmas and other holidays and we get to go out and perform for tree lighting ceremonies, and have our Winterfest, and go to M&T Bank," Senior Inara Tyjohnpirm  said. "It's been fun. December is a very fun month for us."

Junior student Calia Hardy agrees.

"I feel like it shows, firstly, the community that we are singing," Hardy said. "Performing Arts, we're still up to our same caliber of talent and it shows everybody else that we're just not in school, singing and dancing all the time and when we do, we're doing it well."

"I think it's a huge gift for both sides because we have such talented young people in our community that sometimes people just don't get to experience," Vocal Co-Director Jennie Billera said.  "This is also a great opportunity for them to get out in the community and promote themselves."

Holiday Music Under the Dome continues this week with the following free performances:

  • Wednesday, December 13: Buffalo Academy of Visual and Performing Arts Honor Choir
  • Thursday, December 14: Gemtones from Mount St. Mary Academy and St. Mary’s School for the Deaf Sign Chorus
  • Friday, December 15: Iroquois High School Choirs

All performances take place from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
