Birthplace of WNY: Holland Land Office in Batavia

Office that sold the original WNY property is now a museum.

BATAVIA, N.Y. — Batavia calls itself the birthplace of WNY, because it was there the Holland Land Office divvied up property and sold it to early American settlers. The land was purchased from Native Americans and the Dutch company had a good relationship with our region's Indigenous People.

The museum is a fascinating look at how WNY was surveyed and sold, and features many artifacts relating to the 200+ year old company.
