BUFFALO, N.Y. — "Family Before Everything" is the name of a new movie written and produced by FBE Productions.
The movie is about a family in Buffalo's Cold Springs neighborhood that deals with choices.
Writer and director Phil Davis Sr. said "It's all about how sometimes when people want to try to protect their family members from certain things, they make different decisions, and how sometimes those decisions can come back to bite you in the end."
The show features an appearance by Benny the Butcher. It is a suspenseful drama.
Actress and assistant director Monique Cunningham said the images on the big screen are important.
"You have the urban street aspect of it, but there's a twist to it," Cunningham said. "It shows the different dynamics that, yes, the street hustler goes out to get money for his family. But there's a whole different dynamic that's in there, and I think that the other dynamic needs to be seen because the other perspective just has a flat face to it, and it's derogatory to some degree, but not without understanding the ins and outs of why it is that."
Paulette Harris of 716 Artists worked closely with the production.
"I think here in Buffalo we have so many independent artists, so many smaller film companies," Harris said. "We hope that people will invest in us, not just us, but give everybody an opportunity.
"It has to be across the board, some companies get more work than others, maybe because they know somebody. So what I'm saying is, give everybody an opportunity. We're not looking for a handout. We're looking for a hand up, for the opportunity to show our talent and show our skills."
You can watch the movie premiere on Saturday, April 6. The screenings at 7 p.m. is sold out. There are tickets still available for the 9:30 p.m. show at Seneca One Building Auditorium, 1 Seneca St., in downtown Buffalo.
There is going to be an additional screening of "Family Before Everything" at BAVPA on Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m., at 450 Masten Ave. in Buffalo.
