NEW YORK — Released almost 28-years ago in January of 1996, a movie that we all know and love hit the screens. Happy Gilmore is a classic comedy that many think of when hearing the name Adam Sandler.
On September 9, Sandler got many fans excited with a social media post, alluding to the popular comedy's sequel that is now confirmed to be in the works.
In Sandler's post it had a caption reading "It ain't over. The way I see it... we've only just begun." paired with a photo of Happy's signature Bruins hockey jersey on a hanger and a tag labeled 'Happy Gilmore'.
Fans in the comment section said things like:
"YESS!!!"
"Happy Gilmore 2???"
"WHAT!!!!"
and even the Boston Bruins Official Hockey Team got in on the commentary saying "Great…fresh content for every opposing rink across North America".
So is Happy Gilmore 2 actually happening?
In an article written by Netflix on September 10 they confirmed a cast is being assembled and production has begun.
The cast will feature both new and old faces such as Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin), Julie Bowen (Virginia Venit), and new to the cast Benito Martinez Ocasio, also known as popular rapper Bad Bunny.
Adam Sandler of course will be returning as his main role, Happy Gilmore.
There is no information yet on what role Benito has been casted to play. It is also unclear on how the sequel's storyline is planned to go.
Netflix leaves fans on a final note in the article writing " Stay tuned for more as we follow Happy Gilmore’s triumphant return to the world of sports."
