BUFFALO, N.Y. — Friday, October 13th would normally be a big day to go see a scary Halloween movie. But this Friday night, movie theaters and drive-ins everywhere will be a lot more "Swiftie" than scary, for the Era's Tour Concert Film.
The Transit Drive-In is expecting at least 2,500 people to be there when they show the new movie on all five of their screens for the first time on Friday at 7:30 pm. They have additional showings Saturday, Sunday and for the following three weekends.
The concert film is an opportunity for locally-owned businesses like the Drive-In to tap into the economic boom of the the "Swift Effect," seen in Era's Tour stops across the country this past summer.
General Manager of the Transit Drive-In, Jordan Clement, says they are encouraging fans to take advantage of all the space at the Drive-In by doing everything they'd do at a live show: dress up, get out of their cars, sing, dance, and pass out friendship bracelets.
"Being able to dance and move around freely, it's different from being in a theater, locked in to kind of like one seat area so, in that way it's really special," Clement told 2 On Your Side. "Taking a concert that's so incredibly hard to get tickets for in person, and bringing it to large venues like movie theaters, drive-in's or wherever, it's just really special."
The Drive-In will have a costume contest Friday and a red scarf giveaway on Saturday, in reference to the song All Too Well.
Tickets are available for the first two weekends on the Transit Drive-In's website. They are $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for children ages four and up.
The Aurora Theatre in the Village of East Aurora had their first showing on Thursday night, which General Manager Julia Foit says was "a lot of fun."
"I actually got to see a little bit of it, and it was cool to she," she told 2 On Your Side. "They did a really great job filming it, and she just looked fantastic."
Foit says that they're hoping the film gives Taylor Swift fans a reason to visit East Aurora and support other small businesses before or after the show.
"I think it's going to bring a lot of people especially into town, and we love supporting all of the local businesses so we encourage people that when you come into town, take a look around, stop at the different stores and everything. We do own a popcorn shop to also get your Eras Tour themed kind of popcorn stuff," Foit said.
You can find show times and ticket information on the Aurora Theatre website.
