Taxidermy fans welcomed at Buffalo expo

There's a place to be this weekend if taxidermy, skulls/bones, or funeral collectibles gain your interest.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — There seems to be something to do every day in Buffalo, no matter what your interests and hobbies are. There are places to explore nature, sports events, music and art festivals, and so much more.

This weekend, there's even a place to be if taxidermy, skulls/bones, or funeral collectibles gain your interest.

The 2024 Oddities & Curiosities Expo has been touring the country since January, and Buffalonians have the chance to visit this weekend.

The expo runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Buffalo-Niagara Convention Center.

On Saturday Heather Clark, owner of Sleeping Sirens Arts and Oddities, hosted an immersive and hands-on experience exploring taxidermy. Participants learned about the history, techniques, and what it means to be ethical in this activity.

On Sunday, there are two sessions available for a Butterfly Pinning and Preservation Workshop. Any skill levels are welcome and attendees will be joined by experienced entomologists and butterfly preservation experts.

You can learn about ethical collection practices, pinning techniques, how to dry and mount, in addition to exploring display options, and learning more preservation tips.
