Music of the Civil War Era, a concert by The 198 String Band, will include popular music from the antebellum years; stories about soldiers and families North and South facing war, death, and loss; and challenging songs engaging race, slavery, emancipation and the war itself.
The 198 String Band is based in Buffalo and performs traditional music focused on major historical periods and themes. Drawing on mostly unknown music unearthed through historical research, this versatile group has presented on the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and the music of Woody Guthrie in programs across the country. Join us as we kick off a very special weekend that will conclude on Sunday with the commemoration of President Lincoln’s Birthday, the longest-running celebration of its kind in the country!
