Buffalo Bert offers annual weather prediction for WNY

This year's prediction was met with a crowd of boos, but members of the Buffalo Groundhog Society say that Bert is the most accurate rodent around.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Bert has spoken: Western New York will endure another six weeks of winter.

That was the official prediction on Saturday afternoon, when the Buffalo Groundhog Society held its 11th annual Buffalo Groundhog Day celebration. The six-hour event was held at Flying Bison Brewery.

This year's prediction was met with a crowd of boos, but members of the Buffalo Groundhog Society say that Bert is the most accurate rodent around.

Next week people will celebrate Groundhog Day, when Punxsutawney Phil will let everyone know if we will see six more weeks or winter, or if spring will arrive early. That is, if you don't take Bert's word for it.

Buffalo Groundhog Day members Jarod Miller and Andrew Kowalewski on Friday stopped by the Most Buffalo studio to discuss their annual event, which included Buffalo Bert's weather prediction at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Proceeds from Buffalo Groundhog Day will be donated to Hawk Creek Wildlife Center and other animal-related organizations throughout Western New York.
