HAMBURG, N.Y. — The Special Olympics of New York have announced that they will be holding their annual "Polar Plunge" fundraising event on December 7, at Woodlawn Beach in Hamburg.
Family and friends will "take the plunge" into the freezing waters of Lake Erie to help raise funds for the Special Olympics athletes here in Western New York.
Nearly 1,000 brave plungers took on the frigid waters last year, raising over $200,000.
This year the Buffalo Polar Plunge has a goal of $250,000 and has added a new activity to the event. This will be the first year of the Super Plunge. Plungers who raise at least $2,500 will take on the Super Plunge, where they will jump into the lake every hour, on the hour, for 24 hours. The Super Plunge will start on Friday, December 6 and go through December 7.
Anyone interested in registering a team, or as an individual, can do so by visiting www.PolarPlungeNY.org/Buffalo.
