BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Chautauqua Institution, a 750-acre community on Chautauqua Lake, is celebrating 150-years of its history on August 6 featuring a lineup of special anniversary events.
The Institution's Old First Night celebration commemorates its founding in 1874 as a Sunday school for kids to continue learning during their summer vacation.
Today, roughly 7,500 people reside on the non--profit's grounds during a nine-week summer season, and more than 8,000 kids enroll annually in the Chautauqua Summer Schools.
On August 6, their historic Athenaeum Hotel will feature a giant birthday cake, and admission to the institution will be free starting at noon.
Visitors can expect ice cream making, fireworks, live music, and more.
