BUFFALO, N.Y. — Get your mint julep's, fascinators, and bright dresses ready because it's almost time for the Kentucky Derby.
Buffalo is ready to celebrate.
There are parties being held all over Western New York on Saturday.
WNY's largest Kentucky Derby party will be at Buffalo Raceway, Saturday at 10 am.
Batavia Downs and Casino is also hosting three different Derby parties Saturday at 11:30 am.
Buffalo Distilling Company is joining in on the fun.
"We make the only bourbon distilled in Buffalo and one of the few distilled in all of Western New York," said Roy Bakos of Buffalo Distilling Company.
"We decided we wanted to throw a party for Derby Day," he said. "Buffalonians are always looking for a reason to go out and have a party and we thought Derby Day would be the day to do it."
The business also announced that they are planning a million dollar expansion to their location on Seneca street.
"We are going to add some catering space, a full kitchen as opposed to just a small kitchen that we now have behind the bar," said Bakos."We are going to redo our back area so we can have more seating for more guests and then we're going next door we're also going to be putting in a lounge space."
"We're going to do some specialty drinks for the Derby, have the Derby on, prizes for the best hats and the best outfits and it should be a really good time," said Bakos.
Once you have found the event you want to attend, next you have to find a Kentucky Derby style outfit.
Scoop Shop on Elmwood Avenue is filled with many affordable vintage items, including ones to get you Derby ready.
"We have a lot of hats and most of them are vintage. This one is from the '60s," said Scoop Shop Owner Wendie Reed.
"You can get ones that you would spend a couple hundred dollars on at the store, here pre-loved for forty bucks," said Reed.
