BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Albright-Knox Gallery officially broke ground on their $155 million "AK360" Campus Development and Expansion project Friday.
During the construction, which is expected to last 22 months, the gallery will be closed to the public. The museum will still operate the Northland campus, at 612 Northland Avenue, while the main campus expansion is taking place.
It was announced during the ceremony that Jeffrey Gundlach, a Western New York native who is the CEO and founder of Doubleline Capital, will donate another $10 million, bringing his total donation to the project to $62.5 million dollars.
When finished, the gallery will be renamed Buffalo Albright-Knox-Gundlach Art Museum, or more simply the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.
The Albright-Knox Gallery houses one of the best collections of contemporary art in the world, with over 7,000 pieces
