BUFFALO, N.Y. — Jonathan Acosta joined the WGRZ sports team in August 2023.

Jonathan comes to Western New York after spending the previous two years at KFSM, WGRZ’s sister station in Fayetteville, Arkansas. While in SEC country, Jonathan covered everything high school and Razorback sports, including following the Hogs to bowl games, March Madness and the College World Series. Previously, he was in Eugene, Oregon for two years. During his time in the Pacific Northwest, he produced a 30-minute sports show, before moving into an anchor and reporter role, covering the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers, as well as the US Track and Field Olympic Trials at Hayward Field.

Sports have always played a big part in Jonathan’s life wherever he’s been. He was born in Rhode Island and lived for a while in Georgia before settling in Tampa, Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2019, which included covering the Gators win the 2017 College World Series in Omaha. His family is originally from Colombia, so soccer runs through his blood, and you’ll always find him watching and talking about the biggest games—especially if they involve Lionel Messi or FC Barcelona.

Jonathan’s ecstatic to dive into Buffalo’s sports scene, from the pros to the preps, and tell the stories of all the athletes, coaches, and fans that make Western New York the amazing sports market that it is.

In his free time, he’s usually playing FIFA or pickup basketball, and trying out as many local food spots as possible. Feel free to reach out with any recommendations, or any story ideas at jonathan.acosta@wgrz.com or on X (formerly known as Twitter) at @_jacosta.
