BUFFALO, N.Y. — James Gregorio’s career was forged at a young age. A life-long waterman, Gregorio grew up in Montauk, N.Y., surfing and paddle boarding and trying to forecast the next swell. His love of the ocean and all things aquatic, sealed his fate and steered him towards a career in Meteorology. He first pursued his undergraduate degree from Ithaca College before heading WAAAY South to Mississippi for Mississippi State’s Broadcast Meteorology Program.
Upon graduation, his first “real” job was as an NBC Page at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in the heart of New York City. From there James would land weather jobs in Roanoke, Va., and Richmond, Va., before heading back up North to work for News 12 New Jersey for over 20 years. At News 12 NJ, Gregorio covered everything from blockbuster snowstorms to tornadoes and hurricanes to the unmatched fury of Superstorm Sandy. His work in New Jersey has garnered him several awards, which include an Emmy Award and two Edward R. Murrows. He also holds the American Meteorological Society’s Television Seal of Approval.
Gregorio is very happy to be in Western New York and filling in at WGRZ given his time spent in Central NY and his Mother being an Alumnus of Buffalo State. It truly is a City of Good Neighbors and hospitality.
