BUFFALO, N.Y. — Dan Russell is a Meteorologist for WGRZ.
Born and raised a Western New Yorker, Dan grew up a huge Bills fan with family season tickets throughout the Super Bowl years. He was even at the "greatest comeback game".
Dan grew up two miles from Lake Ontario and has been fascinated with lake effect his entire life.
He went to school at SUNY Brockport with majors in both meteorology and broadcast communications. Dan has studied and forecasted the influences of our lakes on our weather patterns his entire career, which spans over two decades of broadcasting.
He has also covered some of Buffalo's biggest weather events, including '14 Snowvember and the '22 Christmas Blizzard.
He was a Varsity Head Football Coach at Lake Shore for six seasons and helped deliver their first winning season in 20 years in 2023, which helped him earn their division's Coach of the Year honor.
In 2019 he was awarded "Buffalo's Meteorologist of the Year" and won a Journalist Association of NY award for best weathercast in New York State.
