The YMCA Turkey Trot is a 8K (5-Mile) race for everyone! Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome to join in on the fun. Whether you're a seasoned trotter or a first-time participant, this event is about community, camaraderie, and celebrating the spirit of Thanksgiving together.
With a massive field of 14,000 runners, the YMCA Turkey Trot has become a cherished Thanksgiving Day tradition, filled with community spirit and goodwill. But it's not just about the race; it's about giving back. Proceeds raised through this event help fund the YMCA's essential work, empowering youth, ensuring health equity, and providing support to our community's most vulnerable members.
Race Route-8K (4.97 miles) begins on Delaware Avenue at Tacoma Avenue in North Buffalo and finishes on Franklin Street near the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. Click here to view a map of the full course.
A virtual YMCA Turkey Trot option is also available for out-of-towners and those unable to take part in the in-person event. Virtual participants have the option to run, jog, or walk an 8k (4.97 miles) route of their choosing anytime over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Costumes are encouraged at this family fun event. Prizes are awarded for the top three most creative individual and group costumes, as voted on by crowd applause. To enter, simply head to the Delaware YMCA on race day (just north of the start line) and check in at the stage no later than 8:30 am to be eligible for consideration. Winners are announced on-site prior to the start of the race.
