BUFFALO, N.Y. — After a historic lake effect snowstorm in the middle of the month, it's no surprise that this past November ranks as one of the snowiest on record for Buffalo.
A total of 36.9 inches of snow fell in November of 2022, making it the second snowiest for the month on record in Buffalo. And all of that snow fell between Nov. 16 and 19 during the lake effect event that also dropped over 6 feet of snow across the Southtowns and broke the daily snowfall record for the city on Nov. 19.
The only year that tops this past November is November of 2000 where Buffalo received 45.6 inches of snow. Similarly, the city received over 30 inches of snow within a single event, but had an additional snowstorm before and after to boost totals above 40 inches.
More likely than not, the presence of a lake effect snow storm is to blame for a November being one of the snowiest on record or not.
