BUFFALO, N.Y. — Colder air and windy conditions are expected through Wednesday night.
A Wind Advisory continues for most of WNY until 4am Thursday morning, and for N. PA until 7am Thursday. The advisory was canceled for Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. Westerly winds 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected.
Peak wind gusts reported from Wednesday reached to around 60 mph, including Irving 61 mph, the Dunkirk Airport 58 mph, Niagara Falls Airport 58 mph, Fredonia 56 mph, Olcott 54 mph, Buffalo Airport 53 mph, Hamburg 53 mph, Warsaw 52 mph, and Williamsville 51 mph (National Weather Service).
That's because a strong cold front moved through during Wednesday bringing gusty winds and also quickly dropping temperatures from record warmth in the mid 60s early Wednesday afternoon to around 30 by early evening, and 20s mid evening. Rain showers quickly changed over to snow showers.
Lake effect snow will likely also develop Wednesday night into Thursday morning east and southeast of the lakes, with a coating of snow for many spots, and minor accumulations for the hill tops possibly 1 to 2 inches east of Lake Erie. Partly sunny skies elsewhere on Thursday with cold highs in the mid to upper 20s and wind chills in the teens and even single digits from breezy conditions.
Temperatures will slowly begin to warm again Friday afternoon and into the weekend to the 40s and then 50s with partly sunny skies mainly. A system passing to the south on Saturday may bring some clouds, 30% chance isolated shower south.
Stay tuned for updates from Storm Team 2.
