Town of Amherst swears in 5 newly elected lawmakers

Two council members, a town clerk, a highway superintendent, and a town justice say they're excited to get to work in their new positions.

AMHERST, N.Y. — The official swearing in of newly elected lawmakers in the first week of the new year continued Friday in the Town of Amherst.

Amherst swore-in town clerk Francina Spoth, council members Deborah Bucki and Michael Szukala, as well as highway superintendent Patrick Lucey and town justice Geoffrey Klein.

All five say they're excited to get to work helping people in the town.

Earlier in the week, Niagara Falls got its first new Mayor in more than a decade when Robert Restaino, 60, was sworn into office Wednesday morning inside City Hall.

And in Buffalo, Bryan Bollman and Mitch Nowakowski were welcomed into the ranks of the Common Council on Wednesday.

Nowakowski represents the Fillmore district, and Bollman represents the city's Lovejoy neighborhood.

Both new council members say residents can expect to see them out and about and very active in the community.
