FREDONIA, N.Y. — The Village of Fredonia and Town of Pomfret are now under a travel ban. The City of Dunkirk is under a travel advisory due to continuing snow fall and unsafe conditions.
The Village of Fredonia Police Department announced the travel ban shortly before 10 a.m. on Saturday.
According to a release made by the Dunkirk Police Department, the travel advisory for the city went into effect at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. The release also noted the following conditions:
- Strong winds and heavy snow may cause downed trees and power lines.
- Downed power lines: Always assume any downed line is live and energized. Maintain a safe distance of at least 35 feet.
- Traffic signals: Treat intersections as a four-way stop if traffic lights lose power.
The City of Dunkirk also noted the following reminders for residents:
- Keeping vehicles off the road will help facilitate snow plowing and ensure emergency vehicles can access the streets safely.
- Residents are asked to follow alternate parking regulations to assist with snow removal efforts and allow easier access for emergency responders.
Fredonia Office of Emergency Management says do not make any unnecessary travel. Local emergency services and Highway / DPW workers are currently working in the communities.
