CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. — New York State Police have issued a ban for certain types of empty tractor trailers traveling on the Thruway due to the Lake Effect Snow Warning.
A warning has been issued for Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Wyoming, and Allegany counties from 7 a.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Monday.
A second Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued for Northern Erie county and Genesee county, but the timeframe is different. It starts 7 a.m. Saturday and ends 7 p.m. Sunday.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory underway for McKean County in northern Pennsylvania from 4 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.
In a post made by the NYS Police on Friday they wrote the following:
"Due to lake effect snow in Western New York, an empty & tandem commercial vehicle ban will take effect at 3 p.m. on:
- I-86: PA state line to I-390
- State Route 219: PA state line to I-90
- @NYSThruway (I-90): Exit 53 to the PA state line
If you live in the areas that will be impacted by the heavy lake effect snows avoid unnecessary travel."
