Mother, daughter identified in Buffalo murder-suicide

Buffalo police responding to check the welfare of a woman found her body inside a home on Cunard Road Wednesday. Pennsylvania police believe her daughter, found dead in PA, killed her mother and then herself.

BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Police now say the death of a woman found inside her north Buffalo home was part of a murder-suicide, and they say she was killed by her daughter.

The murder suicide crosses state borders: Police in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, which is outside of Pittsburgh, discovered the body of the victim's daughter in a local motel room shortly before 1 P.M. Wednesday. The 55-year-old died from self-inflicted wounds.

Cranberry police say items found in the motel room with the 55-year-old led them to believe her mother's well-being might be in jeopardy. They contacted Buffalo police, but it was too late; her mother was found dead just two hours later.

The women have been identified as Rose Lilien, 85, and daughter Hannah Lilien, 55.

Cranberry police say Hannah Lilien may have fled to Pennsylvania because she has a relative in the area. Police will interview that relative to help try and determine a motive.
