FREDONIA, N.Y. — Students at SUNY Fredonia celebrated the end of the semester last weekend with what they call "Not Fred Fest."

It is a newer version of what was once just called 'Fred Fest' and is widely frowned upon by the University and Village of Fredonia community.

Michael Ferguson, the Village's Mayor, posted to his Facebook page on Sunday, writing "With regards to Not Fred Fest: we are already working on developing a committee made up of police, fire, EMS, College senate, counsel, FSU President, select students, myself and village officials to develop a community-based solution regarding future events. Too many outsiders taking advantage of our residents, our students and our community. We will resolve this. We will not tolerate this happening in our community."

According to the Chautauqua Today there were 38 people arrested, and approximately 265 documented incidents over the "Not Fred Fest" weekend. To read the Chautauqua Today's full report click here

In another report by a local news group in Chautauqua County, the Dunkirk Observer noted that "Patrols could be seen in the village with numerous citations being issued for open container violations. Most of the activity in these photos is from Canadaway Street. Non-Fred Fest began after the State University of New York at Fredonia announced in 2015 it would no longer be tied to the event that was formerly known as FRED Fest."
