BUFFALO, N.Y. — 2 On Your Side is getting more reaction to the news that downtown Buffalo will not get tens of millions of dollars from the federal government to help finish the Cars Sharing Main Street project.
Buffalo applied for a so-called "BUILD" grant for $25 million but did not make the cut.
In fact, none of the projects in the entire state got the green light.
Car traffic has already returned to a good chunk of Main Street, and the next phase is between Church and Exchange streets. It's a key stretch considering the development happening at the One Seneca Tower, with M&T Bank moving in there.
"Is there any chance of perhaps a reapplication for those funds? Absolutely," Rep. Brian Higgins said. "We've been very successful up until this point. The city has received about $43 million to do blocks of returning cars to Main Street. It's been very, very successful.
"We see that each and every circumstance results in private sector investment, so we will encourage the city to reapply."
While that plays out, there is ongoing construction to the 100 block of Main Street, which is right outside HarborCenter.
