BUFFALO, N.Y. — Leaders at Albright-Knox Art Gallery will gave an update on their multimillion dollar expansion project Thursday.
Residents who live near the art gallery are learning about what to expect as construction picks up steam in the next month or two.
That meeting with residents got underway at 6 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State.
They're were shown a presentation about what is happening now at Albright-Knox and what will happen soon.
Just a couple months ago, Albright-Knox broke ground on a $155 million expansion project. It is called the AK 360. The project will allow the museum to dramatically increase the number of works of art it displays from 250 to 600.
The project should be complete in 2022.
Right now, there is a gate around Albright-Knox for excavation prep work.
The east stairs, a popular place for people to take pictures, is closed, and that will be the case for the entire project.
On Friday, a construction timeline will be posted on the Albright-Knox website.
"Some of the excavation work will be what happens next, as I say within the next month or so, and then people will see on our website (Friday) just some more details over the coming year or so the major phases that will be happening," said Maria Morreale, the director of communications for Albright-Knox.
That excavation work will begin on the Elmwood Avenue side of the museum.
The relocation of any utility lines that need to be moved will also happen at that time.
It's still unclear if there will be any detours or road closures as a result of construction.
The gallery has been closed to the public since the groundbreaking.
But Albright-Knox will still operate their Northland Campus on Northland Avenue, which will open next week.
