3 people die in head-on collision on Route 63 in Town of Shelby

State Police say a U-Haul van that was heading south crossed the center line struck an oncoming pickup truck. Two people have been identified.

ORLEANS COUNTY, N.Y. — Three people died in a head-on collision Saturday on State Route 63 in the Town of Shelby, according to New York State Police.

Troopers say the accident happened at about 11:30 a.m., when a U-Haul van that was heading south crossed the center line struck an oncoming pickup truck.

State Police say both vehicles left the roadway and burst in flames.

They identified Charles L. Stevens, 80, of Black River, N.Y., as the driver of the U-Haul and Jeffrey S. Johnson, 57, of Carthage, N.Y., as a passenger.

State Police are still attempting to identify the driver of the pickup truck.

The investigation into the crash is on-going.
