BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Police Department announced on Saturday they made an arrest after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle at Genesse Street and Bailey Avenue on Thursday.
Around 10 p.m. that night, C district officers responded to a crash at Genesse and Bailey. A 62-year-old Buffalo woman was struck by a vehicle and taken to ECMC by AMR where she was pronounced dead, according to police. Police have not yet released the name of the Buffalo woman who was killed.
The driver, identified by police as 23-year-old Niyonna Cunningham of Buffalo, stayed on the scene and spoke with officers. Police said they saw signs of impairment and carried out a roadside sobriety test and blood draw. Cunningham failed the tests and was placed into custody. According to the police report, Cunningham also had a 1-year-old child in the back seat of the car during the incident.
Cunningham was charged with one felony count of vehicular manslaughter, one felony count of aggravated DWI, and one DWI violation.
