BUFFALO, N.Y. — A jury has found a City of Buffalo man guilty of trying to kill a family member.
Davante Thompson, 27, was found guilty of one count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Assault in the First Degree, one count of Assault in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. The jury deliberated for more than two hours after the three-day trial.
Investigators say Thompson tried to kill a family member by stabbing them with a knife in their shared home on Humboldt Parkway in the City off Buffalo on August 26, 2021.
The victim suffered several stab wounds to her face and body before she was able to flee to the bedroom of another family member.
A second family member was also attacked by Thompson. That victim was stabbed in the neck and once in the body before a third family member could intervene in the attack to help.
Thompson was arrested by police shortly after the assault. Both of the family members who were attacked were treated at ECMC for severe lacerations, stitches, and a loss of range in motion causing nerve damage.
Thompson faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentence as a second violent felony offender on March 27. He continues to be held without bail.
