NYS has $18 billion in unclaimed funds. Does any belong to you?

When businesses report unclaimed funds, the Comptroller's office holds the funds until they are claimed.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York State currently has more than $18 billion dollars in unclaimed funds

Could some of that many belong to you?

According to the New York State Comptroller's website, the state returns $1.5 million everyday to those that file a claim for unclaimed funds.  The unclaimed funds come from inactive bank accounts, uncollected insurance policies or refunds, amounts due for undelivered goods or services, abandoned stocks, uncashed checks, etc...

When businesses report these unclaimed funds, the Comptroller's office holds the funds until they are claimed.

So far in 2024, the state has returned $41,846,811 to New Yorkers that were owed money.

How do you find out if you have unclaimed funds?  Just head to the New York State Comptroller's Unclaimed Funds website and search your name.  If you're name is in the state's database, just follow in the instructions to make a claim.

The New York State Comptroller's office offers outreach events to help people claim their money.  Check their website for updated events.
