Sears to close Niagara Falls store

Sears announced Monday that their store in Niagara Falls will be closing in August.

NIAGARA FALLS, NY-- Another Sears store is closing in WNY.

Sears announced Monday that their store in Niagara Falls at the Summit Park Mall will be closing in August.

A liquidation sale will begin on May 18.

In a statement emailed to 2 On Your Side, Sears says:

We have been strategically and aggressively evaluating our store space and productivity, and have accelerated the closing of unprofitable stores as previously announced. This is not an effort solely aimed at cost savings but is part of a strategy we’ have been executing against as many of our larger stores are too big for our needs. Having fewer stores – and the right format – will help us bring Sears Holdings to a size and place to meet the realities of the changing retail world.

Customers in WNY can still shop at the Eastern Hills Mall Sears, McKinley Mall Sears or online.

Sears did not say how many employees are affected by the closing, but did say they are eligible to receive severance and can apply at for open positions at other stores.
