BUFFALO, N.Y. — Refugee assistance agencies and elected officials are sounding the alarm about a federal plan under consideration to cut all refugee admissions into the country next year, and the potential impact on the Buffalo region.
The Western New York Refugee and Asylee Consortium discussed the matter on Friday at the offices of Catholic Charities of Buffalo.
The consortium, which includes Catholic Charities of Buffalo, International Institute of Buffalo, Jericho Road Community Health Center, Jewish Family Service of Buffalo and Erie County and Journey’s End Refugee Services, Inc., will also be joined by members of the New York Immigration Coalition, which advocates for laws and policies to improve the lives of immigrants.
