Volunteers, donors help Kenmore host free tree, wreath, and decoration giveaway

KENMORE, N.Y. — The Kenmore Town of Tonawanda Chamber of Commerce on Sunday offered free Christmas trees for people who may not have gotten one yet or cannot afford to get one this year.

A free tree, wreath, and decoration giveaway was held Sunday morning at Elmwood Commons.

Emily Lizauckas' family attended the event. They were picking out a new tree for a loved one with cancer.

"We can take this one here, which has this nice little top, and we asked them, and they're totally cool with just trimming it a little bit so that she can get a better Christmas tree, a replacement Christmas tree, for the one that's not going to last very long," Lizauckas said.

"Its important to be able to share these Christmas moments with someone who we know is not going to make it to next Christmas."

This tree tradition started decades ago thanks to local volunteers and donors.

Businesses such as Arida Tree Farms, Lowe's, Russell's Tree Farm, Home Depot, and more supplied the trees and wreaths for the giveaway.
