Groundbreaking for Buffalo Culinary School

After years of delay, construction will finally begin on the newest Buffalo Public School.

Buffalo, N.Y. — After years of delay, construction will finally begin on the Buffalo School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.

It was initially planned for the Trico building a few years back but leaders are expected to finally break ground Friday on the new school.

It will now be coming in to the historic CW Miller Livery Stable on Huron Street.

Buffalo Public Schools is building this new school off the success of their already-established Emerson School of Hospitality on Chippewa Street.

The new spot will expand opportunities for students even more to hospitality, sports management and hotel management.

They picked the downtown building for its proximity to so many restaurants and hotels, offering students hands-on, real world experience.

The building on Huron Street is six stories tall and will house state-of-the-art commercial kitchens for a restaurant that will be run by Buffalo Public School students.

The new school will also have classrooms, science labs, a library and a gym.

This is all under an initiative by the district called "New Innovative High Schools."

The goal is to get outside of the box of traditional schools and offer career exploration and development, especially in line with emerging industries in Western New York.

Ground will be broken on the Buffalo School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management at 10 a.m. Friday.
