CHICAGO — The Buffalo Sabres snapped a three-game skid as they beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in their first matchup against each other this season.
Chicago put a shot through the crease in the dying seconds of regulation that ended up hitting the goal post, but it wouldn't go as the Sabres improved to 8-9-1 overall on the year.
Buffalo wasted no time grabbing an early 1-0 lead thanks to a silky-smooth shot by Rasmus Dahlin. He would also add two assists to his tally for the night.
Also scoring for the Sabres was Jeff Skinner who slipped one through on the powerplay during the second period, and then Erik Johnson later in the third.
Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen controlled the crease for Buffalo stopping 24 of 26 shots faced, and earning a .923 save percentage to help lift the Sabres to a win.
The Sabres will travel to Washington D.C. on Wednesday to take on the Capitals for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
